I can't hid the fact that I collect stuff: VHS movies, books, trinkets from my travels. I find it hard to resist a $1 copy of Fools Rush In on VHS or a comic book all about funny little things cats do. I want it, I need it, I take it home with me! There's only one problem, I have no place to store them. Usually all these wondering things end up in a big pile which I slowly pick my way through. My addiction to collecting these marvelous items resulted in this:
What a disaster! I decided enough was enough and spent a Sunday afternoon organizing and re-organizing this area until it was manageable. This resulted in yet another trip to Honest Eds to deal with the mound of VHS tapes. The two wicker baskets were purchased originally to deal with this problem, but my collection kept growing so I purchased another larger wicker basket to store them all.
I'm happy with the new wicker basket, although I may spray paint it later this summer because I'm still not sold on the colour. Another problem is that there is little room to grow, so I may need to be more selective with my VHS purchases (for now). I'm also in the market for a bookshelf to manage all these books. All in all, I'd say this quick fix makes the view at the end of my bed so much more beautiful!

I strongly believe that you should greet the start of a new season with a major house cleaning. Nothing feels better then a freshly cleaned and organized apartment. I usually hibernate in bed throughout the winter so as soon as the weather is nice I get so excited to start fresh by scrubbing, purging and re-organizing myself for the upcoming sunny months. I started this year's deep cleanse with my closet. If you've seen my apartment, you know how tiny it is. I only have one teeny little closet which stores clothes, cleaning supplies, shoes, bags, and a bunch of necessary house items that I have no where else to hide. It gets messy fast! I purged as many clothes and shoes as I could to make way for a new spring/ summer wardrobe. I have a general rule when cleaning: if I haven't touched it, worn it or used it in the past 6 months, toss it! This is generally a hard rule for me to stick to, seeing as I'm so sentimental over items and I keep everything.

In order to accomplish this task, I ripped everything out of my closet (clothes on the bed, the remainder of things spread in this hallway). I always feel it's best to start fresh and only put in what you want to keep.

Ta da! It feels so good to have a clean closet. It makes me want to keep it clean because it looks so good and is so much easier to use. The rack in the closet for sweaters, bags, and winter coats + the shoe rack (both in and outside of the closet) are from Honest Eds. I'm so lucky to live right beside that store. Usually I'll be cleaning and realize I could use some type of storage unit then head over to Honest Eds and voila! I was so impressed with these results that I ended up doing a major clean throughout the rest of my house. I'll share results soon. Happy spring cleaning to all!

Next week it will officially be spring but the amazing weather lately has already given us a taste of what's in store for this summer - and I'm so excited! One of my favourite things to do on a sunny day is to take a long, adventurous bike ride through the city and eat a vanilla cone by the waterfront. The following photographs of ice cream trucks were taken within the last two years.
